HITTING: good hitter you have to be aggressive
|
|
There is one constant: to be a good hitter you have to be aggressive. The team should have
an aggressive attitude and "we're going to hit" mentality: "We're going to
beat you with the bats. Even our outs are going to be loud." (Loud outs wear the
opposing team down after a while. Pitchers become afraid to throw strikes.) The attitude
of the team should be: "If you score on us we're going to come to bat in our half of
the inning and score right back. If we get ahead we're going to pile on runs. We will beat
you with our bats. We never let a hitter's pitch go by. If you throw inside we're going to
pull it. If you throw away we're going to the opposite field. We are going to hit the ball
hard." This team attitude is initiated and nurtured by the head coach. He should
constantly remind and reinforce to his team that they are good hitters. We have certain
verbal cues that we use with our team. Some of them are: "Swing the bat hard, throw
the barrel at the ball, hit it hard, never let your pitch go by, go up there
hacking." These are phrases that are unique to each coach but their purpose is to
constantly remind the kids that they are going to hit the ball and hit it hard. After awhile this attitude becomes engrained in the players.
Hitting is contagious. |
